Positively Green

It's good to read optimistic articles now and then, because the majority of news can be quite depressing. That's why I liked reading this article from MSNBC/Newsweek about the positive things Americans are doing all across the U.S. in regards to environmentalism.

Hope you enjoy it, Birchibald!

  • There will always be people in this world who take the shortest distance between two points with no regard for waste or consequences. It's good that some of us can see through that folly and at least try to do our part to make things better for future generations. Yes, we all die individually but what will we be remembered for as a generation together?

  • You raise an excellent point, Juan: What will our generation be remembered for? As a member of Generation X, I'd prefer to be remembered for something besides being one of the "slackers".

In Austria, I was reading "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Friedman. In it, Friedman makes a comparison between John F. Kennedy and George W. Bush, and the comparison is not flattering. He talks about the great challenge JFK posed to Americans by giving the goal of a manned flight to the moon in 10 years. This inspired many Americans to enter the sciences in order to acvieve that goal, and it succeded. After the 09/11/2001 terrorist attacks, GWB had a similar opportunity to rally the nation for the goal of energy independence. Guess what he did instead: He told us to all go shopping.
